What causes normal period during pregnancy?

I just found out I'm pregnant and in the last trimester despite having a normal period and no real belly. I only weigh 140. A lot of women say it is unlikely but tlcs I didn't know I was pregnant teaches otherwise. Its ironic that I watch the show. What I wanna know is WHY this happens!!!
