How do you believe a child should be disciplined?

I got slapped and hit a lot as a child, and I think I turned out pretty well. The only negative that I can observe is that I was a very subdued child...I was very shy and afraid of a lot of things, but I've grown out of that. My little sister, on the other hand, NEVER got hit as a child. I love her to death, but she might be the brattiest teenager I've ever seen. This is probably a very narrow example, but it's why I believe kids should be disciplined the old-fashioned way!
